Understanding the challenge of Data Analytics in IoT

19 Jan 2017 Published by Telefónica IoT Team

2017 could be a key year in the development of data analysis within the IoT. The latest reports point to European companies’ growing interest in implementing analysis strategies as part of their short-term objectives. However, there is still a long way to go, as noted in the report by Telefónica with Hewlett-Packard Enterprise and PAC. According to the document, only a small fraction of these organizations is in a mature stage of implementation regarding data analysis strategy. However, the vast majority of them have not lost sight of this factor and will begin implementing new strategies in the coming months.Read more

Paula Valverde: “the next step in the implementation of LPWA is related to the demand curve”

18 Jan 2017 Published by Paula Valverde

LPWA technology complements current and short-range cellular networks, providing solutions with low energy consumption, long range, and better indoor penetration. This technology is of critical importance in populated urban areas, but also in open areas, where its range is extended dozens of kilometres. In addition, its low-cost allows us to provide solutions to use cases that we have not been able to solve with the current technology. To know more about this technology and their importance, current and future, we asked Paula Valverde Revuelta, Head of New Business at Telefónica and expert...Read more

Jan Höller: “We actually have the technology to solve the problems”

A few months ago we asked Jan Höller, an IoT expert, a Research Fellow at Ericsson and the co-author of the book "From Machine-to-Machine to the Internet of Things: Introduction to a New Age of Intelligence", to give us a comprehensive review of how M2M solutions are being adapted to an IoT world. We are now continuing the transcription of this fascinating interview. In it, Höller provides us with a viewpoint on IoT applications across industries, as well as various other issues that are driving the evolution of the technologies around it. Read more

Programming languages in the IoT era

04 Jan 2017 Published by Telefónica IoT Team

Under each machine, every connection, any kind of interface... there is a programming language. The IoT connects a myriad of devices to each other, creating a massive, complex network. But there are thousands and thousands of programming languages, too. Which is the most commonly used in the development of IoT? The choice of one language over another determines the end product or service, as well as the technical possibilities or the user experience. In the age of the Internet of Things, choosing the programming language properly is vital to the success of the project.Read more

How to protect your IoT devices so that they are not involved in the next attack

30 Nov 2016 Published by Carlos Carazo

On Friday 21 October of this year there was an attack that prevented access to services that are used every day such as Twitter, Paypal and Spotify.

Once it had been resolved and the causes analysed, it was determined that part of the attack had originated from what was hitherto unlikely suspects: IoT devices infected with malicious code.

This post analyses what exactly happened, what the motives were, why IoT devices were chosen and how you can protect them with technology from the operator so that they are not involved in the next attack.

Industry 4.0 is much more than Smart Factories

23 Nov 2016 Published by Alejandro Cadenas

We should start by explaining what Industrial IoT (IIoT) – also known as Industry 4.0 – is. It is undoubtedly as much a revolution as the three previous revolutions were. But this revolution is quieter and trickles from certain businesses to reach the entirety of organizations. In the digital era, changes move faster than in previous periods.

The term Industry 4.0 was coined by the German Academy for Science and Technology (acatech) a association that protects the interests of key players such as Bosch or Siemens. The term chosen by acatech has...Read more
